A helmetless unicyclist overtaking cars on a suburban street dramatically lost control and crashed into a lamppost in an accident caught on video.

The crash happened in the city of St Petersburg, Russia, on Sunday, 4th May.

Footage shows the man standing on the unicycle while weaving through traffic before sitting to accelerate and speeding past several vehicles.

Moments later, he suddenly slips sideways and the unicycle crashes into a lamppost, sending the unicycle rider skidding along the road.

The car he had just overtaken is seen braking hard and pulling over to avoid hitting him.

It is currently unclear if he was injured in the incident.
