A restaurant owner who shot a 19-year-old waitress in the back of the head after allegedly discovering that she had an affair with her husband has been jailed for 12 years.
The victim, Ana Vitoria Pereira Alves, 19, was killed on 31st March 2018, but restaurant owner Adriana Alexina Leal Borges Andre, who confessed to her murder in Catalao, in the Brazilian state of Goias, was only arrested this year (2025), some seven years later.

Borges Andre claims that after she found alleged text messages between Ana Vitoria and her husband, not named, she called her, pretending that she needed help with a job.
Borges Andre picked up Ana Vitoria at her home and the pair began arguing after arriving at the restaurant, with the owner confronting the waitress over the alleged affair with her husband.
She claimed that the victim confirmed the two had slept together.
During the argument, Borges Andre grabbed a gun and shot the woman in the head.
The victim died at the scene.
The woman's husband was reportedly in the back of the restaurant and after hearing the gunshots, he arrived and saw his wife holding the gun.

He reportedly fled, believing that he may be next.
However, after the crime, the woman ran home, which was not far from the restaurant, asked the nanny to look after the couple's two-year-old son, and fled.
Borges Andre was eventually arrested but was allowed to await the trial in freedom.
She was tried and found guilty of murder in September last year (2024), with her defence filing an appeal that was denied in February.
She was rearrested on 29th March and taken to prison.
Ana Vitoria's sister, Joyce Alves, told local media that her sister wanted to study education or nutrition.
Her friend Cleia Teodoro said that the young woman liked playing football every day in Davinopolis, in a team some 42 kilometres away from her work in Catalao.

She said: "She played every night. Some days, she would play twice a day. It was the sport she loved the most."
Cleia added: "She dreamed of achieving her own independence, of going to university, travelling.
"Vitoria was very outgoing, happy, playful, affectionate and very helpful.
"If you needed her, she was a jack of all trades. She could never say 'no' to anyone. Wherever she went, she was full of joy and made people laugh a lot."
The young woman had reportedly purchased her own home right before the brutal murder, with a housewarming party scheduled for the week after she died.
Joyce said that her sister had been working at the restaurant for three years and was very popular in the city where she lived.
Joyce added: "She was known by everyone and at the same time loved by both family and friends.
"She was a girl full of dreams, and unfortunately, they were interrupted by a tragedy! Today, we have a sad and empty family without her."
