A man and woman were thrown from a camel that bolted into the streets while they clung together between its two humps.

The incident happened in Xi'an, a city in Shaanxi province, on 30th April.

The animal was a privately-owned camel being handled by its owner when it suddenly began galloping down a road as the two riders held on without a saddle.

Video footage shows the man seated behind the woman with one arm around her waist and the other holding a mobile phone as the camel rears up.

The woman appears alarmed as the animal suddenly charges forward, with the handler desperately trying to keep hold of the reins.

As the camel accelerates, the pair are seen bouncing between the humps before they are thrown off, hitting the ground hard.

According to reports published on 1st May, the man and woman were friends of the camel’s owner and had suffered skin injuries but were not seriously hurt.

The camel was later recovered and returned by its owner.

The animal was confirmed to be a Bactrian camel, also known as the two-humped camel.
