A woman beautician escaped being executed because her would-be killer was too overweight to catch her and got stuck in the doorway.

Video footage of the incident shows the man attempting to kill his ex-wife by shooting her inside her beauty salon in the city of Bauru, located in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil, on 12th May.

The suspect entered the salon where his ex-wife was working and opened fire, but most of the bullets missed.

One struck her arm and got lodged in her chest, though the wound was not fatal.

Before he could shoot again, the woman managed to escape and ran down the street, with the attacker trying to follow.

As seen on CCTV footage, he got stuck in the doorway and fell flat on his face, even losing a shoe during the chase.

Despite multiple shots being fired, she evaded further injury and was later taken to a local hospital, where she remains under care awaiting surgery.

Her condition is stable and her life is not in danger.

Police arrested the man, whose name was not revealed, shortly after the incident, and he has been charged with attempted femicide and illegal possession of a firearm.

The victim's identity was also not disclosed and police said she had reported her ex-husband several times in the past for assault.

The investigation is ongoing.
