As his horrified pal Dylan Bekker, screamed, Johandre's dad and his friend's father came running and began a gruesome tug of war with the croc.
After thrashing Johandre around in its powerful jaws the crocodile finally lost its grip as the youngster's left arm was torn clean off.
The two dads applied pressure to Johandre's wound before he was rushed to hospital.
Medics stabilised the boy before he was helicoptered to a specialist intensive care hospital in Alberton where he was placed in an induced coma.

Now in an extraordinary show of courage the boy has reportedly posted a social media clip from his home thanking well-wishers who helped pay his huge medical bills.
Johandre reportedly signed off the clip saying: "Love you, love you, love you bye."
His family sought help with a BackaBuddy Fund plea to meet the bills which raised nearly ZAR 500,000 (GBP 20,090).
Dylan Bekker's dad Jannie Bekker described the croc attack as "horrendous".

He said: "It was a monster of a crocodile. After Johandre was saved, a young man went out in a boat to see if he could find the arm, and the crocodile went for the boat.
"We went to see the owner of the resort and advised that the crocodile be shot. This must not happen again."
It is currently unclear, however, if the crocodile was ever caught.
