A Volkswagen Tiguan driven by a 37-year-old woman that swerved into the wrong lane collided with a Lada Vesta driven by a 30-year-old man when he tried to avoid a collision and swerved to the left just as she did the same.
The crash took place on the M-8 Kholmogory highway in the Pereslavl district of the Yaroslavl region, Russia, at around 11:00 pm on Saturday, 10th May.
Dashcam footage captured the moment of the collision.
The video shows the Volkswagen veering into the opposite lane of traffic.
Although the driver appears to realise the mistake and returns to her lane, the Lada driver swerves to avoid a collision and inadvertently moves into the path of the Volkswagen.
This manoeuvre tragically results in a head-on crash that the Lada driver was trying to avoid.
According to preliminary information from the police, the driver of the Lada sustained fractures and bruises.
He received initial treatment at a medical facility in Pereslavl, where a lacerated wound on his right hand was stitched, and a tight bandage was applied to his right shoulder joint.
He was then sent to his place of residence in Kostroma for further outpatient treatment.
The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate is investigating the circumstances of the incident.
Relatives of the injured driver are also seeking eyewitnesses to the accident.
