A drink-driver trying to escape police was filmed while making a Fast And Furious leap with his car over a massive roadside pit.

The incident happened in the city of Blagoveshchensk, located in Amur Oblast in Russia's Far East, on Wednesday, 14th May.

CCTV footage captured the moment the vehicle, pursued by traffic police, accelerated off the road and launched into the air over a deep trench dug for construction work.

Although both sides of the massive trench appear to be of equal height, on one side where the car landed the tarmac appears to have been dug away making it slightly lower, yet despite that the car tore off its exhaust and was too badly damaged, it continued after the jump.

A second video shows how the car landed hard but had continued moving briefly before officers caught up and arrested the driver.

Authorities said the motorist was heavily intoxicated and had ignored repeated police signals to pull over before attempting the reckless manoeuvre.

The vehicle appeared to be a mid-size model with SUV-like features, and images from the scene show visible damage to the undercarriage following the airborne stunt.

According to regional law enforcement, the driver now faces multiple charges, including endangering public safety and driving under the influence.

A post from the official traffic police account for the Amur region on Telegram stated: “He had no idea how many people he could have killed. This is not a Hollywood film.”

The pit spanned several metres across and had been cordoned off with standard construction fencing, which the driver ploughed through before becoming airborne.

No injuries were reported to bystanders or police.

Local officials confirmed that repairs to the damaged fencing and roadside area began the same day.
