The Turkish Navy has successfully test-fired its domestically developed ATMACA guided missile from the corvette TCG Kınaliada, striking a decommissioned fast attack craft during a military exercise.
The live-fire event took place off the coast of Sinop, a city on Turkey’s northern Black Sea shore, on 10th May.
The missile, produced by the state-owned defence contractor Roketsan, was fired from TCG Kınaliada and successfully destroyed its target, the retired Dogan-class fast patrol boat ex-TCG Marti, according to footage released by the Ministry of National Defence.
ATMACA, which means "hawk" in Turkish, is a long-range, precision strike anti-ship missile capable of hitting targets beyond 200 kilometres (124 miles) with high accuracy.
It features a high-explosive fragmentation warhead and uses advanced guidance systems including GPS, inertial navigation, barometric altimeter, and radar altimeter.
The missile is designed to fly at low altitude and can manoeuvre to evade enemy countermeasures, making it a strategic asset for modern naval warfare.
The ATMACA is intended to replace the US-made Harpoon missile, further strengthening Turkey’s domestic military production and operational independence.
The Ministry stated that the missile achieved a direct hit, showcasing the effectiveness of Turkey’s defence technology.
It was tested during the DENIZKURDU-II 2025 exercise, which aims to improve joint operational capabilities across Turkish military branches.
