The brother of a popular MMA champion has died in a house fire at the age of 29 with investigators saying that he may have forgotten a pot on the stove after a late night out.

Patrick Vettori, the brother of mixed martial arts (MMA) champion Marvin Vettori died in the early hours of 15th April due to smoke inhalation from the fire in the kitchen.
The incident took place in Mezzocorona, in the Italian province of Trento, just after the victim had announced his candidacy for the municipal elections.

The alarm was raised at around 5 am this morning but when the Carabinieri and the firefighters arrived on the scene, Patrick was already dead.
The tragedy has shocked the local community, where Patrick was very popular, and where he was set to run for the municipal elections next month on 4th May.
The victim was found on a sofa and although the flames had not reached him yet, he had died of smoke inhalation, according to doctors.

Investigators are now looking into the causes of the fire, with an initial reconstruction saying that the 29-year-old had returned home late at night and had put a pot on the stove but may have fallen asleep on the sofa.
The investigation is ongoing.
