Suspect Jordelia Pereira Barbosa, 35, is facing trial in Imperatriz, in the state of Maranhao, Brazil, over the horrific deaths of seven-year-old Luis Fernando and his big sister Evelyn, 13.

Barbosa is accused of buying the luxury treat and injecting it with chumbinho, a powerful pesticide so toxic it is only allowed to be used on farms.

Then she is said to have sent it by courier as a mystery gift for her husband's new love Mirian Lira Silva, 32, who tragically shared the egg with her children on 16th April.

Louis died just hours later and his sister was killed by organ failure after a six-day fight for life while their mother Mirian survived.

Now Barbosa has been stripped of custody rights to her own children after family court judges ruled that they needed "protection" from their mother's notoriety.

Her former husband, now Marian's partner, told the 3rd Court of Santa Ines on 12th May he feared for their safety if they were not removed.

Judge Alexandre de Mesquita agreed and said that the seriousness of the charges she is facing and the impact of the trial on the children meant they needed security and safety.

In a ruling he awarded custody of the children aged eight and 14 to their father, Antonio Alves Barbosa Filho.

Their mother is currently in custody in the Sao Luis Women's Rehabilitation Prison Unit awaiting trial.

The decision emerged as victim Mirian, still recovering in hospital, posted a tearful video montage showing her children laughing and playing together.

A tear-jerking caption reads: "You were my whole world."

Mirian wrote on Facebook: "I can still hear their laughter in every corner of the house."

Disturbing details of the case against Barbosa have emerged in local media ahead of her trial.

Barbosa was caught on CCTV security footage buying the Easter egg in a shop while wearing a wig and sunglasses.

Prosecutors say she included a chilling note with the egg that read: "With Love To Mirian Lira - Happy Easter."

The rivalry had apparently been ongoing for years, as Antonio dated Mirian before he married Barbosa, and eventually got back together with her after the marriage failed.

Barbosa has admitted sending the chocolate but has denied lacing it with poison.
