This is the shocking moment a 21-year-old student wearing headphones is struck by a freight train while crossing the tracks without realising it is headed straight towards her.

The incident occurred at Strela station in the city of Omsk, located in south-western Siberia, Russia, on Monday, 5th May.

According to the Transport Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Siberian Federal District, the young woman was walking along the railway tracks with headphones on and did not hear the approaching train.

The train driver reportedly gave special sound signals and applied emergency braking upon noticing the pedestrian on the rails, but a collision could not be avoided.

Medical personnel were unable to save the victim, and an investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of the accident.
