This is the moment a powerful avalanche sweeps through a tourist resort, engulfing entire buildings in snow.

The avalanche struck Sonamarg, a tourist resort in Ganderbal district, central Kashmir, India, at 10:12pm on 27th January.

Officials said the avalanche hit the resort area late at night and was captured on CCTV cameras, which recorded snow surging into built-up areas of Sonamarg.

They added that there were no reports of loss of life or injuries following the incident.

Authorities had issued a warning on Monday, 26th January, of a high-intensity or high-danger avalanche in the district.

Sonamarg and several other parts of the Kashmir Valley received moderate to heavy snowfall in the 24 hours leading up to the avalanche.
