This incredible footage captures the moment a car surfs on a slab of concrete after an avalanche tore the road away, dumping tonnes of rock and debris on the unlucky owners of several vehicles parked below.
The incident happened in the Fengzeyuan Community, in Baota District, Yan’an, in Shaanxi Province, China, on 12th October.
The local authorities rushed to the scene shortly after the collapse, blocking off the affected area and evacuating more than 170 households.
Preliminary reports said that seven or eight vehicles were damaged. No injuries were reported but the surfing car appears completely undamaged in the middle of the chaos and debris.
Officials suspected that the collapse was caused by continuous rainfall that had saturated the ground in recent days.
Footage shows earth and rock pouring down the slope, burying vehicles parked below.
The sight of the undamaged SUV prompted widespread discussion online, with some netizens making light-hearted comments about the incident.
Property management and community staff assisted with emergency response and vehicle recovery.
Authorities have continued to monitor the area and carry out further safety assessments.
The cause of the landslide remains under investigation, with local reports saying that the authorities suspect heavy rainfall in the area may have caused the collapse.
