Victim Ruan Benayhur Braga had climbed to the top of the waterfall at the site to take a photo when he slipped on wet rock and fell. The area is listed as one if the places to visit in the region and is a popular beauty spot where people often take social media images.
But it is also remote and as a result, there is no phone signal at the site, and friends of the man only managed to flag down a group of firefighters who happened to be returning from another incident.

Second Sergeant Elisa Bischoff of the Taquara Fire Department said Braga floated for a few seconds before submerging.
The search lasted around two hours before his body was recovered.
The waterfall is about 20 metres (65 feet) high and four metres (13 feet) deep.
