A dentist and his new girlfriend have been arrested after they admitted giving his 20-year-old former partner a cocktail of drugs to induce an abortion in a motel room.
Victim Gabriela Patricia de Jesus Silva died hours after she was brought unconscious to a hospital in Ceres, in the state of Goias, Brazil, on 1st August.
According to police, Gabriela was taken to the hospital by her dentist ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend, a nursing technician. Reports said the man was believed to be the father of her unborn child.

The two reportedly confessed that they had planned to terminate the pregnancy at a motel.
Inside the room, allegedly applied abortifacient, which a type of drug used to induce abortion, to the young woman's arm.
Moments later, she began having seizures and passed out.
Police, alerted to the incident by medical staff, said that motel employees initially refused to cooperate, would not reveal which room the group had used, and denied any knowledge of the incident.

Only after being charged with disobedience did one staff member confirm what had happened and said the owner had personally refused to call an ambulance.
Both suspects, who have not been named, were arrested and remain in custody following a court hearing on 2nd August.
They claimed that they had agreed together with Gabriela to carry out the abortion, but further examination is set to confirm whether she actually consented or if might have been drugged.

The judge said the pair acknowledged knowing the procedure was illegal and carried serious risk.
The motel later issued a statement expressing regret over the incident but denied trying to obstruct the investigation.
The case remains under investigation and further forensic analysis is underway.
