A mother accused of the sadistic torture and murder of her two-year-old son has been seized by police after she took him to hospital claiming he had passed out.

Horrified medics in Curionopolis, northern Brazil, on 21st July found little Davi Feitosa Araujo was already dead with agonising injuries.

An examination found he had a broken neck and his mouth had been so savagely smashed that his teeth were showing.

Further injuries showed he had suffered sustained abuse before he had been killed my a massive blow to the head.

Medics believed he had been brutally tortured before being killed and called police.

Davi's mother Kellem Cristina Conceicao Feitosa, who had claimed her son had passed out after swigging from a bottle of medicine, was arrested just hours later.

Ironically police had earlier helped her take her son to hospital after she had flagged them down in the street.

Feitosa is now facing charges of aggravated murder with use of cruel means because her son would have been unable to defend himself.

Shocked neighbours said they had not heard any screams or unusual movements in the home that would indicate domestic violence.

Police are continuing their investigation.
