This footage shows huge chunks of "soggy noodle-like" hair falling off a woman's head after a botched bleach session that left her with an irritated scalp and a painful allergic reaction.

The footage, filmed in Hubei, China, shows the woman having her hair done in a salon, but it looks stringy and spaghetti-like as the hairdresser tries to dry it, with large clumps already falling out.

The images quickly made the rounds after being shared on Douyin, which is what TikTok is called in China, on 14th July.

Local media reports said that the woman paid RMB 350 (GBP 36.31) for her haircut but it ended up looking like "noodles".

She complained that the stylist left the bleach on her head for too long while he went and cut another customer's hair.

He reportedly apologised but only offered a free bottle of hair oil as compensation for her ruined hair.

The next morning, her scalp was painful, red, swollen and had lumps.

After seeing a doctor, the woman was diagnosed with irritant contact dermatitis.

Local media quoted doctors at the Wuhan Sixth Hospital as saying that chemical substances such as phenylenediamine, hydrogen peroxide, and amino acids in hair dyes are the "culprits" that cause allergic reactions such as itching, redness, swelling, and blisters on the head and face.

They recommended that people interested in dyeing their hair do a skin test before, choose non-irritating hair dyes, and avoid long-term contact between hair dyes and skin.

They also advised people not to bleach their hair more than three times a year.
