Singapore Airlines is being sued after serving a woman prawns despite her allegedly pointing out that she was allergic, prompting her to fall violently ill and causing an emergency landing.
American citizen Doreen Benary, 41, was flying in Business Class from Frankfurt, in Germany, to New York, in the US, with Singapore Airlines on flight SQ026 on 8th October 2024 when she fell ill after being served her meal.
Benary claims that she told flight attendants that she suffered from an allergy to prawns when she boarded the flight and now she is suing the airline for negligence.
Her complaint, Singaporean media reports, states that "despite the aforesaid warnings", one of the flight attendants allegedly gave her a meal that contained prawns.
Benary claims she "nearly immediately" began to feel ill after eating some of her food and when she asked the flight attendant about it, they reportedly admitted that they had made a mistake.
But Benary, still according to the complaint, was then "violently ill", so much so that the aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing in Paris, in France, so that she could receive medical treatment.
She claims she then had to have two painful procedures at two separate medical facilities in France before being able to return to the US.
Benary's complaint, dated 17th June, alleges that Singapore Airlines is guilty of "negligence" and that the airline "breached its duty of care and violated its own practices and procedures".
The lawsuit claims that the alleged negligence caused Benary "great pain, agony, and mental anguish" and left her out of pocket.
The airline has so far not responded publicly to the allegations.
