A twice-elected blonde mayoress has sparked outrage after showing off her toned body in a social media clip where she dances in a skimpy bikini.
Patricia Alencar was re-elected as mayor of Marituba, in Brazil, with over 70 per cent of votes while promising stability for the town's 100,000 residents.
Her popularity at the polls, however, may have been impacted by the repercussion of the latest video she posted on Instagram dancing in her bedroom in a beige bikini.
Many criticised her harshly, arguing that the video undermined the "expected conduct" of a public figure.
One user wrote: "As a voter, I expect a more appropriate stance from those who run my municipality."

Another said: "This isn’t about moralism, but about responsibility when it comes to public image. The role demands a certain decorum, even outside the office."
In response to the backlash, mother-of-three Alencar took to her Instagram stories and wrote: "Seriously, all this fuss over a woman in a bikini? Bloody sexism. Grow up! A woman can be hardworking, a mum, and attractive."
She also claimed that the post was made on a private profile, with only 186 followers, and accuses one of her contacts of forwarding the content to local websites and profiles.

Alencar, 37, was re-elected in 2020 and has been actively using social media to promote her administration’s initiatives and engage with the public.
