Police officers quickly saw through the ploy of a car owner who told them he had been driving the car and not his girlfriend who did not have a licence when she knocked an eight-year-old girl flying.
The incident took place in the forecourt of a residential complex in Kazan, in Russia, on Wednesday, 21st May.
CCTV footage of the scene shows the girl running out into the road and being hit and run over by the car, which then reverses slightly before coming to a stop.
A man gets out of the passenger side and heads over to the girl, picking her up in his arms before going to sit down on a nearby bench.
As he picks her up, the woman, who is in the driving seat, then slowly gets out herself.
The man, not named but said to be 24, later told police officers that he had been driving, but the police checked the CCTV footage and determined that his 23-year-old female companion had been driving the car.
The schoolgirl is reportedly receiving medical treatment after being taken to hospital with unspecified injuries.
The authorities are investigating the incident.
