A wild buffalo fatally gored two people and injured two others after charging through a residential area in broad daylight.

The incident happened in the Jahajghat area of Tezpur, a town in Assam’s Sonitpur district, in India, on Monday, 2nd June, with the animal attacking four people, leaving two dead and two critically injured.

Divisional Forest Officer Champak Deka said that one of the victims who was attacked in the early hours of the morning was Dharson Das and he died at the scene.

The buffalo then went on to charge at three more individuals, leaving one dead and two injured.

One of them, identified as Bhojon Gope, died from his injuries at Tezpur Medical College and Hospital.

Two others remain in critical condition and are being treated at the same hospital.

Officials reported that the buffalo later became stuck in a nearby swamp.

A rescue team from Kaziranga National Park was called in to assist in tranquillising the animal.

The authorities confirmed that efforts to control and relocate the buffalo were ongoing..

Residents were advised to remain alert while the operation continued.
