A man who claimed his wife had killed herself after he found photos of lovers on her phone is facing life behind bars after police found his fingerprints on her 'suicide note'.

Accused Husamettin Keklik, 33, will go on trial in Aksu, Turkey, for the murder of his wife Duriye Cigdem Keklik, found dead in their apartment on Valentine's Day (14th February).

Duriye was found with a gunshot wound to her chest caused by her husband's hunting rifle.

Keklik told police she had killed herself while he was at work because she feared he was going to leave her after his discovered snaps of her exes on her phone.

A note he claimed he had found on the coffee table said: "I didn't cheat on you, I don't know how the photos got there. I thought of no one but you.

"I loved you more than my life. I'm so sorry I put you through this. Bless you. I kill myself at my own will. You're getting rid of me."

But police became suspicious of the blood splatters in the room, which looked like Duriye had been shot from a distance.

They also failed to find any trace of gunpowder on her hands indicating she could not have pulled the trigger.

Then they found Keklik's fingerprints and DNA all over the suicide note he claimed he had not touched.

Antalya Public Prosecutor's Office believes he either forced 30-year-old Duriye to write it or forged it himself.

Duriye, police will tell the trial, suffered years of violent abuse from her husband, now being held in pre-trial custody.

The court will be told that Keklik argued with his wife and then shot her with the rifle before calmly going to work after arranging the room to look like a suicide.

When he came home for lunch, he claims he discovered her body and called for paramedics, who declared her dead at the scene.

He claimed to police: "My wife had photos with her ex-boyfriend on her phone, and I saw these photos on 13th February.

"I threw the phone in front of her and told her to destroy them.

"Then I asked my wife what she was doing, and she said, 'I'm dead'."

He went on: "She deleted them but they were only in the trash folder. I told her she was disrespecting me. I went out when I got angry."

The next day, claimed Keklik, they clashed again before he left for work.

He said: "I left at 8:00 am and when I came home I opened the living room door and I saw my wife had committed suicide. She shot herself with my automatic rifle"

Kekilk's trial for aggravated murder is due to start later this month at the Antalya province 3rd High Criminal Court.
