A father who strangled his wife and 10-month-old daughter and then incinerated their bodies told shocked police he "slept better than ever" after the brutal killings.
Accused Joao Augusto Borges de Almeida first lied that his 23-year-old wife Vanessa Eugenio Medeiros and their 10-month-old daughter Sophie Eugenia Borges had simply disappeared.

But under police questioning in Campo Grande, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, the delivery driver confessed that he had throttled them during his lunch break on 26th May.
Then he calmly went back to work and on his way home bought a can of petrol from a garage.
Police investigation head Rodolfo Daltro said: "His coldness was shocking."

Prosecutors say he wrapped the bodies in blankets and then drove them to nearby scrubland where he set fire to them.
Callously, he plotted the killings when his wife told him she wanted to separate but he did not want to pay her any alimony.
And when police asked him if he was sorry for the killings, he shockingly said: "I slept better than ever because I'd been freed from my problem."
Borges de Almeida had first broke his wife's neck with a Brazilian jiu-jitsu rear naked choke in the bedroom after telling her he wanted to discuss their separation.

Then he found baby Sophie playing in her bed and smothered her, say police.
The next day he went to his local police station to report them missing but within hours the lie unravelled when the victim's charred remains were discovered.
Police checked nearby CCTV and found footage of the bodies being carried out of Borges de Almeida's car.
Then they searched the vehicle and found traces of DNA and substances from the bodies inside the boot.
Borges de Almeida is facing charges of double femicide and the desecration of two bodies.
