This is the punch drunk moment a boozy driver squares up to the cop who pulled him over and gets felled by a single right hook.

The bruising showdown was caught on camera outside a bar in Goiania, Goias state, Brazil, on 23rd May after locals called police about a drunk stopping the traffic.

The footage, which rapidly spread across social media, shows the burly driver climbing out of his 4X4 pickup truck and confronting the slightly built Military Police officer.

As he lunges at the cop, the officer lets him have a powerful right hander on the chin and the driver drops forward on his face like a felled tree.

One local filming the bout on his phone shouts: "That's what you get for messing with the police!"

While the driver's girlfriend, wearing skin tight gold leather jeans, calls for help, officers simply put traffic cones around him so he does not get run over.

Another man who runs over to help is rapidly dragged away by his girlfriend.

Than as crowds watching the showdown jeer the driver starts to come to and the clip ends.

After he regained consciousness, the driver was taken to the Central de Flagrantes police booking station and his truck was impounded.

The officer has not been named and there are no reports of disciplinary action or charges against him.

It is unknown if the driver is facing any criminal charges.
