The bodies of two women who survived for days under a quake-hit 12-floor apartment block in Myanmar have been found after the sister of one recognised her hand waving for help.

Chinese nationals Ming Yanzhu and Yang Liqing had both been in the Sky Villa block in Mandalay when the 7.7 magnitude quake hit on 28th March.

Rescuers called off the search three days later (31st March) after finding just three survivors.

But Yanzhu's younger sister urged officials to keep searching after spotting her sibling's hand desperately waving for help from the rubble in video footage reports of the rescue.

She had recognised a thumb ring on the hand just like the one Yanzhu habitually wears.

After watching the clip more than 20 times she was convinced the hand belogned to her sister and begged rescuers to keep looking.

She said in a social media post: "I’ve seen it more than 20 times and I’m sure it's my sister."

Just four days later the bodies of Yanzhu and her cousin Liqing were found buried under tonnes of rubble.

The death toll from the Myanmar quake has topped 3,000, with torrential rain expected to make rescue efforts next to impossible.
